Dog Day Short

Every so often when the mood hits and work is slow, i get a chance be personally creative and make a small animation short. This is one I did the other day in a bit of spare time...

And heres an old one from Valentines day about 2 years back.

Someone pointed out death is kinda prominent in my shorts... which then made it occur to me that in everything i've made including all my college films someone dies. It wasn't my intention but there it is....bit morbid i know....anyway HAVE A NICE DAY!

Showreel 2015

We finally got a show reel together with the best of work from the past four years...technically this is a post concerning work rather then any personal stuff BUT i'm just so damn proud!

Also the Sgt. Pepper inspired thumbnail was designed by our newest employee Chris.

Enjoy!

Work sketches #2

I should write a disclaimer for the irregularity of this blog.

Time for some work sketches! Again many of which is my ever ending struggle to draw ladies and find a style i'm happy with....forever searching.

This is just a twisted imaging on if babies were like cuckoos

Lily Cole as seen in the imaginarium of doctor parnassus...or at least an attept to try out a style on her

Something a little more comic book or graphic style, (I removed her mannish upper half)

This is a sketch i just really like the look of when it was done

It also gave me an opportunity to try out some new software i got a trail for, It seems to be what a lot of digital speed painters are using and on a first go with it i gotta say i like it, Autodesk Sketchbook! only €80.  Im not entirely sold on it but i've got a project coming up that should test it limits and if its a goer then i'll seriously consider moving from trail to official.

So lets go through it!
Quick trace over original image with pencil tool

Remove original sketch layer leaving only digital sketch

Blocking in the colour

Adding first shading and highlighting

Cleaning up the shade

Merged original shade layer with blur to clean layer to give more distinction...tho accidentally made her a little to orange

Creative Titleing

Two Posts in one day! when it rains it pours.

I don't wanna just number these posts as they come, but naming  them can be messy without a system....oh well.

Heres another drawing of a friend i did ...think the side got a little blurry in the scanner sorry.
Im really enjoying doing these

Also here a comic i did while staying late at work..involving the things i hated as a child but now find particularly comforting.

Worky Sketchs #1

More pictures from the workplace...best to keep drawing between render times keep the mind sharp or some such thing. I like to all em the Turkey Worky Sketchs
Insight into my brain during work
I've been messing with face styles and using actual photo references of my friends to make caricatures with an overall similar style but also letting personality come through a bit... so a lack of consistency still remains...i realise given you the actual photos i use as reference would help...but i'm not sure if they appreciate being plastered up on a blog, so if you know me you'll probably know them anyway

We were talking bout Laika the Doggy Cosmonaut the other day.....SPAAAAACCEE DOOOOGG

And now in TECHNICOLOR!

Treesleepers video

A couple of weeks back i helped shoot a music video for a local band The Treesleepers , Dir. Maeve Hickey. Was a nice well planned shoot if i do say so ( i didn't plan it), and we managed to get a nice day for it too. If i had had the time i think i would have liked to edit the piece myself as there were some seriously nice shots in there, but alas time is money and i'm mercenary when it comes to cash soooo left in the hands of the other.

The editing was finished there recently so we are now privy to the finished product Enjoy

And here are some stills from the day.
